Run Amok Combat Robotics
Try Your Hand as a Combat Robot Judge Scenario 4: In the opening seconds of the match, robot Alpha tears a wheel off robot Beta, imparing mobility but not rendering it immobile. For the next minutes, both robots continue to concentrate on attacking each other -- although Beta is slower to maneuver and lacks pushing power because of the lost wheel. Very near the end of the match, Beta manages to tear a wheel off Alpha. Alpha's mobility is impared, but it still manages a 'victory dance' to display mobility as the last seconds tick off the clock.
Under the Robot Fighting League 'Damage/Aggression' scoring, which robot wins this match?
Answer: Total score is 6 to 5 for Beta.
Damage points are a 3 to 3 tie. Even though Beta was functionally handicaped throughout the match and Alpha was fully functional for the majority of the time. The damage was equal at the end of the match and no consideration is given for the length of time that a robot has to function with acquired damage. Under 'D/A' scoring, judges don't even need to watch the match to score damage. If they view the 'bots before and after the match, they can allocate damage points.
Alpha should not have wasted time with a mobility display during the waning seconds of the match. Judges may request a 'bot to display mobility after the match is over if there is doubt. During the mobility display, Alpha was not attempting an attack on Beta and it loses out on the aggression scoring 2 to 3.
Opinion: Loss of maneuverability and pushing power for most of the match counts for nothing? Bah!
