A full season after the cancellation of BattleBots on the ABC boradcast network, the show found a new home on the Discovery cable network. Season 8 of the show aired as twenty episodes in prime time on Friday nights over the summer of 2018. The shows were re-shown on the following Wednesday evening on Discovery's 'Science Channel' with an extra few minutes of bonus material.
Fifty-five robots entered the competition in a new format that pitted the robots in a series of qualifying fights with the match-ups determined entirely by the producers of the show. Robots that survived the four qualifying matches were ranked by the show producers, with a few special multi-bot rumbles serving as tie breakers. The top sixteen robots were placed in a single-elimination tournament to determine a champion. The championship tournament tree appears below. |
