The Eighth Wars
After a thirteen-year hiatus, the iconic Robot Wars returned to British television in 2016. The rebooted format had a much smaller group of competitors than earlier Wars -- only five heats of eight robots each. As in the Seventh Wars the first round was a pair of four-robot melees with two robots eliminated from each group. The second round was a new 'round robin' match-up with each of the surviving four robots fighting against each of the other three in head-to-head matches. The two robots with the best performance in the round-robin fought head-to-head in the third round for the title of heat champion. After five heats the judges picked a 'wild card' entry from the five heat runner-up robots to move as the sixth champion into the grand final. The grand final format was the same as the earlier heats, but started with three-robot melees eliminating one robot from each group. Winners of each match are shown in bold text. |
